Abstract:
(EN) An illustrative monitoring system for a hydraulic fracturing operation includes: a data acquisition module collecting microseismic signals from a subterranean formation undergoing a hydraulic fracturing operation; a processing module implementing a monitoring method; and a visualization module that displays an estimate or prediction of fracture extent. The monitoring method implemented by the processing module includes: deriving microseismic event locations and times from the microseismic signals; fitting at least one fracture plane to the microseismic event locations; projecting each microseismic event location onto at least one fracture plane; determining a time-dependent distribution of the projected microseismic event locations; calculating one or more envelope parameters from the time-dependent distribution; and generating an estimate or prediction of fracture extent using the one or more envelope parameters. The envelope parameters may include an exponent of a time -power law, and said generating may include re-fitting the fracture plane if the exponent isn't approximately one-half.
(FR) L'invention concerne un système de suivi pour une opération de fracturation hydraulique, comprenant par exemple : un module d'acquisition de données recevant des signaux microsismiques provenant d'une formation souterraine subissant une opération de fracturation hydraulique; un module de traitement mettant en œuvre un procédé de suivi; et un module de visualisation qui affiche une estimation ou prédiction de l'étendue de la fracture. L'invention concerne également un procédé de suivi mis en œuvre par le module de traitement, comprenant : la déduction d'emplacements et de moments d'événements microsismiques à partir des signaux microsismiques; l'ajustement d'au moins un plan de fracture aux emplacements des événements microsismiques; la projection de chaque emplacement d'événement microsismique sur au moins un plan de fracture; la détermination d'une répartition en fonction du temps des emplacements des événements microsismiques projetés; le calcul d'un ou plusieurs paramètres d'enveloppe à partir de la répartition en fonction du temps; et la production d'une estimation ou prédiction d'étendue de fracture à l'aide du ou des paramètres d'enveloppe. Les paramètres d'enveloppe peuvent comprendre un exposant d'une loi de puissance en fonction du temps et ladite production peut comprendre le réajustement du plan de fracture si l'exposant n'est pas d'à peu près 0,5.
