Abstract:
Provided are: a method with which it is possible to produce a liquid composition capable of forming a solid polymer electrolyte membrane having suppressed cracking when drying; a method with which it is possible to produce a catalyst layer-forming coating liquid capable of forming a catalyst layer having suppressed cracking when drying; and a membrane electrode assembly production method capable of forming the catalyst layer or the solid polymer electrolyte membrane having suppressed cracking when drying. In this liquid composition production method, a fluorine-containing polymer having a -SO2F group is held at 110-130°C for at least 45 minutes, the fluorine-containing polymer having the -SO2F group which has been held at 110-130°C is cooled to less than 110°C, the -SO2F group of the fluorine-containing polymer having the -SO2F group which has been cooled to less than 110°C is converted to an ion-exchange group to obtain a fluorine-containing polymer having the ion-exchange group, and the fluorine-containing polymer having the ion-exchange group and a liquid medium are mixed.
