Abstract:
An interior space of rectangular cross-section in which the ratio between the long sides and the short sides is greater than 1 is formed in a housing (20A, 20B) that comprises an insulating body, the interior space being configured from a desolvation region (4) and a drift region (5). In addition, the ratio between the long sides and short sides of an opening in a shutter gate (22) disposed in the interior space is greater than 1, multiple electroconductive wires being provided parallel to the short sides in a tensioned state so as to constitute a grid electrode. It is thereby possible: to reduce bending caused by a difference in potential between adjacent electroconductive wires when the wires are shortened while the area of the opening in the shutter gate (22) through which ions pass is expanded; and to prevent contact between adjacent wires, ion conduction, and disruption in the electrical field during blocking. Because the cross-section of the desolvation region (4) and drift region (5) is rectangular, the Reynolds number decreases and a diffuse gas is caused to form a laminar flow, whereby the resolution and precision of analysis will be improved.
