The invention relates to a device and a method for controlling vehicle speed in a vehicle (100) equipped with brake cruise control when the vehicle is travelling downhill. The method involves driving a vehicle downhill with the brake set speed set to a first brake set speed (vB1); detecting a current vehicle speed; automatically applying a brake torque using at least an auxiliary brake (111) to maintain the first brake set speed (vB1); and detecting a manual application of a vehicle service brake, in order to decrease vehicle speed. If a control unit detects that the driver is applying the service brake (131, 132, 133), then the control unit is automatically arranged to set the brake set speed to a second brake set speed (vB2) that is lower than the first brake set speed (vB1); and to apply a brake torque using at least the auxiliary brake if a detected current vehicle speed exceeds the second brake set speed.

L'invention concerne un dispositif et un procédé permettant de réguler la vitesse de véhicule dans un véhicule (100) équipé d'un régulateur de vitesse de freinage lorsque le véhicule se déplace en descente. Le procédé consiste à conduire un véhicule en descente avec une vitesse de consigne de freinage réglée sur une première vitesse de consigne de freinage (vB1) ; à détecter une vitesse de véhicule actuelle ; à appliquer automatiquement un couple de freinage à l'aide d'au moins un frein auxiliaire (111) en vue de maintenir la première vitesse de consigne de freinage (vB1) ; et à détecter une application manuelle d'un frein de service de véhicule, afin de diminuer la vitesse du véhicule. Si une unité de commande détecte que le conducteur applique le frein de service (131, 132, 133), alors l'unité de commande est conçue pour régler automatiquement la vitesse de consigne de freinage sur une seconde vitesse de consigne de freinage (vB2) qui est inférieure à la première vitesse de consigne de freinage (vB1) ; et à appliquer un couple de freinage à l'aide au moins du frein auxiliaire si une vitesse de véhicule actuelle détectée dépasse la seconde vitesse de consigne de freinage.
