Abstract:
A multipath Doherty amplifier comprises a main path (301), a first peaking path set (302) and a second peaking path set (303). The first peaking path set (302) comprises N peaking paths, wherein N exceeds or equals 2. The second peaking path set (303) comprises N' peaking paths, wherein N' exceeds or equals 1. The Doherty amplifier also comprises an input network (312) configured to connect an amplifier input node to a first input node of the main path (301) and corresponding input nodes of the peaking paths of the first peaking path set (302) and the second peaking path set (303). The Doherty amplifier further comprises an output network (313), configured to first combine the main path (301) and the first peaking path set (302) of the amplifier to form a first combination node (304), which is subsequently combined with the second peaking path set (303) to form a second combination node (305). The second combination node (305) is connected to an amplifier output node (309). The provided Doherty amplifier resolves the technical problem of an obvious efficiency decrease between two peak power efficiencies during high power backoff in a conventional multipath amplifier.
