Abstract:
(EN) A system and method for controlling microbial growth on and in medical devices and implants, especially biofilm infections, involves using pulsed electric fields (PEF). To eradicate at least a portion of a biofilm on a medical implant, for example, 1500 volts can be applied through an electrode system, with pulse duration of 50μs and pulse delivery frequency of 2Hz. In the clinical setting, systemic microbial therapy can be combined with PEF to achieve a synergistic effect leading to improved eradication of infections.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de lutter contre la croissance microbienne sur des dispositifs médicaux et des implants, et à l'intérieur de ceux-ci, en particulier des infections par des biofilms, qui implique l'utilisation de champs électriques pulsés (CEP). Pour éliminer au moins une partie d'un biofilm sur un implant médical, par exemple, 1 500 volts peuvent être appliqués par un système d'électrodes, avec une durée d'impulsion de 50 µs et une fréquence d'émission d'impulsions de 2 Hz. Dans un environnement clinique, une thérapie anti-microbienne systémique peut être combinée avec des CEP pour obtenir un effet synergique conduisant à une meilleure éradication d'infections.
