Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid composition which is capable of making the occurrence of cracks less likely during the formation of a solid polymer electrolyte membrane or a catalyst layer; a coating liquid for forming a catalyst layer; and a method for producing a membrane electrode assembly. A dispersion liquid having a concentration of a copolymer of 13-26% by mass, said copolymer having a constituent unit represented by -[CF2-CF{(OCF2CFX)mOp(CF2)nSO3H}]- (wherein X is F or CF3, m is 1-3, p is 0 or 1 and n is an integer of 1-12) and a constituent unit derived from tetrafluoroethylene, is prepared by dispersing the copolymer into a medium (excluding a fluorine-containing solvent) that contains water and a hydrocarbon alcohol; and a liquid composition is prepared by mixing the dispersion liquid and a fluorine-containing solvent so that the total of the concentration of the copolymer and the concentration of the fluorine-containing solvent is 17-35% by mass.
