Title: GLASS FIBER PRODUCTION METHOD
Abstract:
Provided is a glass fiber production method that makes it possible to stably spin glass fibers without red crystals being mixed thereinto. A glass raw material is prepared such that the glass composition thereof contains 57.0-62.0 mass% of SiO2, 15.0-20.0 mass% of Al2O3, 7.5-12.0 mass% of MgO, and 9.0-16.5 mass% of CaO relative to the total glass composition when melted and the total amount of SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, and CaO is 98.0 mass% or more, said glass raw material is melted, the molten glass thereby obtained is discharged from a nozzle tip, and a glass fiber is formed. On this occasion, the glass composition contains either B2O3 and Li2 or B2O3 and Li2O as an additive that makes it possible to minimize the occurrence of red crystals.
