Abstract

Compositions and methods of making a culture medium from a polymeric material are described herein.The method can include (a) depolymerizing and/or dispersing the polymeric material to obtain a depolymerized and/or dispersed residue, and (b) combining the depolymerized and/or dispersed residue with one or more adjuvants to form a culture medium. In some embodiments, the polymeric material can be a plastic article, such as a waste carpet material. Culture media prepared from the compositions and methods are also described. The culture media are suitable for culturing microorganisms including bacterium, algae, and fungus. The microorganisms can be used to produce a bioproduct such as a biopolymer, an enzyme, or a cellular metabolite.

L'invention concerne des compositions et des procédés de production d'un milieu de culture à partir d'un matériau polymère. Le procédé peut comprendre (a) la dépolymérisation et/ou la dispersion du matériau polymère pour obtenir un résidu dépolymérisé et/ou dispersé, et (b) la combinaison du résidu dépolymérisé et/ou dispersé avec un ou plusieurs adjuvants pour former un milieu de culture. Dans certains modes de réalisation, le matériau polymère peut être un article en matière plastique, tel qu'un matériau de tapis mis au rebut. L'invention concerne également les milieux de culture préparés à partir des compositions et des procédés. Les milieux de culture sont appropriés à la culture de microorganismes, notamment des bactéries, des algues, ou des champignons.
