Abstract:
In order to ensure, without a redundant configuration having been previously installed, that the transmission/reception of a superchannel optical signal is continued while maintaining transmittable capacity when a prescribed subcarrier experiences a fault, this optical transmitter 10 is provided with a splitting means 20 for splitting an inputted client signal so that the frequency efficiency in an optical modulation means is optimized; optical modulation means 31-3N for modulating subcarriers of mutually different wavelengths using the inputted client signal; a multiplexing means 40 for multiplexing the modulated signals and outputting a superchannel optical signal; and a control means 50 whereby, when a prescribed subcarrier experiences a fault, the client signal is outputted to modulation means corresponding to subcarriers that have not experienced a fault, and a high-frequency-efficiency modulation scheme is applied to at least one of said means.
