Abstract:
Provided is a solid state image pickup device (1000) the unit pixels of which each comprise the following: a photoelectric conversion unit that receives reflected light from an object (600) and converts such reflected light to a charge; a charge discharge unit that discharges the charge of the photoelectric conversion unit; an exposure reset unit that switches the timing at which the photoelectric conversion unit accumulates the charge and the timing at which the charge discharge unit discharges the charge; n-number (n being a natural number) of charge accumulating units that accumulate the charge; and n-number (n being a natural number) of read units for reading the charge. In a driving method of the solid state image pickup device (1000), carried out is an exposure sequence having the following: an exposure initiating step in which, following the passing of a prescribed period in which the read unit was put into a conductive state, the exposure reset unit is put into a non-conductive state and exposure by the photoelectric conversion unit is initiated; and an exposure ending step in which, following the exposure initiation and prior to a prescribed period in which the read unit is put into a non-conductive state, the exposure reset unit is put into a conductive state and the exposure performed by the photoelectric conversion unit is ended.
