Abstract:
(EN) An amplifying optical device (10) for providing optical amplification, the amplifying optical device (10) comprising at least one pump (11) for supplying pump radiation, at least one pump optical fibre (1) and at least one amplifying optical fibre (2), the amplifying optical device (10) being such that: the pump optical fibre (1) and the amplifying optical fibre (2) are coated with a common coating (3) and are in optical contact along a portion of their length (4), the pump optical fibre (1) is separated from the amplifying optical fibre (2) at two end portions (5, 6) of the common coating (3), one of the separated end portions (5) of the pump optical fibre (1) is connected to the pump (11), the pump optical fibre (1) and the amplifying optical fibre (2) comprise glass (7), the amplifying optical fibre (2) comprises a core (8) and a cladding (9), the core (8) is doped with at least one rare earth dopant (12), and the amplifying optical device (10) being characterized in that: the pump optical fibre (1) comprises a mode coupling means (15) in the form of a variation of refractive index with azimuth along at least one circle of constant radius, which variation has at least one azimuthal harmonic having an amplitude greater than an amplitude of a first and a second azimuthal harmonic, and which thereby couples guided modes of the pump optical fibre (1) to guided modes of the amplifying optical fibre (2) that overlap and can be absorbed by the rare earth dopant (12) in the core (8).
(FR) L'invention concerne un dispositif optique d'amplification (10) permettant de fournir une amplification optique, le dispositif optique d'amplification (10) comprenant au moins une pompe (11) permettant de fournir un rayonnement de pompe, au moins une fibre optique de pompe (1) et au moins une fibre optique d'amplification (2), le dispositif optique d'amplification (10) étant tel que : la fibre optique de pompe (1) et la fibre optique d'amplification (2) sont revêtues d'un revêtement commun (3) et sont en contact optique sur une partie de leur longueur (4), la fibre optique de pompe (1) est séparée de la fibre optique d'amplification (2) au niveau de deux parties d'extrémité (5, 6) du revêtement commun (3), l'une des parties d'extrémité (5) séparées de la fibre optique de pompe (1) est reliée à la pompe (11), la fibre optique de pompe (1) et la fibre optique d'amplification (2) comprennent du verre (7), la fibre optique d'amplification (2) comprend un noyau (8) et une gaine (9), le noyau (8) est dopé avec au moins un dopant de terres rares (12), et le dispositif optique d'amplification (10) étant caractérisé en ce que : la fibre optique de pompe (1) comprend un moyen de couplage de modes (15) sous la forme d'une variation d'indice de réfraction à azimuth le long d'au moins un cercle de rayon constant, laquelle variation a au moins un harmonique azimutal ayant une amplitude supérieure à une amplitude d'un premier et d'un second harmonique azimutal, et qui couple ainsi des modes guidés de la fibre optique de pompe (1) à des modes guidés de la fibre optique d'amplification (2) qui se chevauchent et peuvent être absorbés par le dopant de terres rares (12) dans le noyau (8).
