Title: METHODS AND KIT FOR DIFFERENTIATING HIV-1 AND HIV-2 ANTIBODIES
Abstract:
The present invention provides a Point-Of-Care test (POCT) that can detect the serological markers of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in a sample. Provided is a method for detecting HIV infection in a subject comprising (a) providing HIV antigens; (b) contacting the human immunodeficiency virus antigens with a biological sample obtained from the subject, the biological sample suspected of containing human antibodies against the HIV antigens; (c) detecting the presence of a complex that forms between the HIV antigens and the human antibody wherein the method simultaneously and differentially detects the presence of antibodies in the sample to HIV-1 and HIV-2 antigens, and the presence of the complex is indicative of a HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 infection in the subject. A kit for carrying out the assay is also disclosed. The claimed method and kit are exemplified by the use of gp120, gp41, gp36 and p24 as HIV-1 and HIV-2 antigens.
