Abstract:
An electric power distribution switchgear (11) is connected between an electric power grid and an electric power equipment (12). The switchgear comprises (i) a synchronized vacuum switching apparatus (16) configured to break the current to the electric power equipment (12) using a synchronized technique to avoid re-ignition during the breaking and thus any transients caused by such re-ignition; and (ii) a surge arrester arrangement (17) connected to the electric power equipment(12), the surge arrester arrangement being designed and configured to only handle transients caused by the current chopping at the breaking. Hereby, the surge arrester arrangement (17) can be arranged remote from the electric power equipment(12), such as e.g. in the same casing(21) as the synchronized vacuum switching apparatus (16).
