In order to smoothly radiate heat from a light source without exerting an influence on a light modulation element, in a casing 150 housing a light distribution member 120, first to third substrates 111a, 112a, 113a on which light sources 111, 112, 113 are mounted, respectively, and a light modulation element 130 which generates image light L indicating a display image are attached to a first wall 151, a second wall 152, and a third wall 153 that constitute an outer wall, the first to third substrates 111a, 112a, 113a and the casing 150 are formed from a member having high thermal conductivity, and a spacer 170 formed from a resin material having a lower thermal conductivity than the casing 150 is disposed between the casing 150 and the light modulation element 130.
