Ways to determine position or proximity of elements such as tags or mobile devices within a wireless local area network such as an IEEE 802.11 network that includes multiple beacons using time of arrival (TOA) of messages are described. System and methods are described for invoking TOA measurements at the beacons, the systems and methods being compatible with IEEE 802.11 protocols and signaling. Systems and methods are described to estimate the clock offset among beacons in an asynchronous network of IEEE 802.11 enabled Beacons, and to compensate for the clock timing offsets of the measured TOA values when triangulating the TOA values to estimate tag and/or mobile device positionlocation.

L'invention concerne des façons de déterminer la position ou la proximité d'éléments tels que des marqueurs ou des dispositifs mobiles dans un réseau local sans fil, tel qu'un réseau IEEE 802.11 qui comprend de multiples balises, à l'aide du temps d'arrivée (TOA) de messages. L'invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés pour appeler des mesures de TOA au niveau des balises, les systèmes et les procédés étant compatibles avec des protocoles et la signalisation IEEE 802.11. Des systèmes et des procédés sont décrits pour estimer le décalage d'horloge parmi des balises dans un réseau asynchrone de balises compatibles IEEE 802.11, et pour compenser les décalages de synchronisation d'horloge des valeurs de TOA mesurées lors de la triangulation des valeurs de TOA pour estimer un emplacement de position de marqueur et/ou de dispositif mobile.
