(EN)A method to remove a contaminant from a material comprises using a drive mechanism (250) to provide a plurality of portions of material (117) to a nozzle (230) in order to generate a jet (246) of the portions of material (117) from the nozzle (230). At least some of the portions of material (117) are at least partially coated in a contaminant (115). The jet (246) of the portions of material (117) are directed at a surface of a volume of liquid. An interaction between the jet (246) of the portions of material (117) and the surface of the volume of liquid causes at least some of the contaminant (115) to detach from at least some of the portions of material (117).
