Abstract

An article, includes a porous ceramic honeycomb body and a housing disposed on at least one of an outer periphery of the porous ceramic honeycomb body and opposing end faces of the porous ceramic honeycomb body, wherein the housing exerts a compressive force on the porous ceramic honeycomb body in at least one of radial direction and axial direction. A method of making the article, includes heating to greater than or equal to about 200C the housing, crimping the housing tightly around the honeycomb body while the housing is greater than or equal to about 200C, and cooling the housing. The housing exerts a compressive force on the porous ceramic honeycomb body in at least one of radial direction and axial direction by shrinking on cooling more than the honeycomb body.

L'invention concerne un élément comportant un corps céramique poreux en nid d'abeilles et un boîtier disposé sur une périphérie externe du corps céramique poreux en nid d'abeilles et/ou sur les faces d'extrémité opposées du corps céramique poreux en nid d'abeilles, le boîtier exerçant une force de compression sur le corps céramique poreux en nid d'abeilles dans la direction radiale et/ou la direction axiale. Un procédé de fabrication de l'élément consiste à chauffer le boîtier jusqu'à environ 200 °C ou plus, à sertir le boîtier d'une manière serrée autour du corps en nid d'abeilles pendant que le boîtier est à environ 200 °C ou plus, et à refroidir le boîtier. Le boîtier exerce une force de compression sur le corps céramique poreux en nid d'abeilles dans la direction radiale et/ou la direction axiale au moyen de sa contraction lors du refroidissement à une température inférieure à celle du corps en nid d'abeilles.
