A hybrid phase-in method mitigates the flicker and rolling artifact based on screen change detection or the combination of screen change detection and image spatial analysis. It applies, for example, to solutions that involve backlight and pixel modulation including global dimming and local dimming. If it is full screen change, then no phase-in is needed and the backlight and pixel change can be applied instantly. If it is partial screen change, then content type and spatial image analysis may be used to decide whether to use phase-in or not. The spatial image analysis concept provides additional useful information besides the image brightness analysis for display backlight power saving solutions to make better tradeoffs between power saving and visual quality.

L'invention concerne un procédé hybride d'introduction progressive qui atténue l'artefact de papillotement et de roulement sur la base d'une détection de changement d'écran ou de la combinaison d'une détection de changement d'écran et d'une analyse spatiale d'image. Elle s'applique par exemple à des solutions qui font intervenir une modulation du rétro-éclairage et des pixels, notamment la gradation globale et la gradation locale. S'il s'agit d'un changement complet d'écran, alors aucune introduction progressive n'est nécessaire et la modification du rétro-éclairage et des pixels peut être appliquée instantanément. S'il s'agit d'un changement partiel d'écran, alors un type de contenu et une analyse spatiale d'image peuvent être utilisés pour décider s'il convient ou non d'utiliser une introduction progressive. Le concept d'analyse spatiale d'image apporte des informations supplémentaires utiles outre l'analyse de luminosité d'image pour des solutions d'économie d'énergie pour affichage à rétro-éclairage afin de réaliser de meilleurs compromis entre économies d'énergie et qualité visuelle.
