Abstract

A gearbox assembly (100) for an electric power assisted steering apparatus comprises a gearbox housing which houses a worm shaft (3) and a gear wheel (10), the worm shaft being supported relative to the housing (2) by a main bearing (5) at an end closest to the motor (4) and by a tail bearing (6) at an end furthest from the motor, and the gear wheel being supported by an output shaft (11) having at least one end that provides a take-off from the gearbox assembly, in which the main bearing and tail bearing are free to move relative to the housing through a limited range of motion that enables the worm shaft to pivot away from the wheel gear, the assembly further comprising: a first pivoting means (27) for the worm shaft main bearing which reacts the axial component of the worm shaft tooth load for a first direction of gearwheel torque but not for a second, opposing, direction of gearwheel torque and defines at least one first pivot point about which the main bearing pivots that is located on a pivot axis, a second pivoting means (28) for the worm shaft main bearing, positioned distal from the first pivoting means, which reacts the axial component of the worm shaft tooth load for the second direction of gearwheel torque but not the first direction of gearwheel torque and defines at least one second pivot point about which the main bearing pivots that is located on a second pivot axis, the second pivot point being spaced apart from the first pivot point.

Un ensemble boîte de vitesses (100) pour un appareil de direction assistée électrique comporte un logement de boîte de vitesses qui loge un arbre à vis sans fin (3) et une roue d'engrenage (10), l'arbre de vis sans fin étant supporté par rapport au logement (2) par un palier principal (5) au niveau de l'extrémité la plus proche du moteur (4) et par un palier final (6) au niveau de l'extrémité la plus éloignée du moteur, et la roue d'engrenage étant supportée par un arbre de sortie (11) ayant au moins une extrémité qui fournit une prise à partir de l'ensemble boîte de vitesses, dans lequel le palier principal et le palier final sont libres de se déplacer par rapport au logement sur une plage limitée de mouvement qui permet à l'arbre de vis sans fin de pivoter en s'éloignant de l'engrenage à roue, l'ensemble comprenant en outre : un premier moyen de pivotement (27) pour le palier principal de l'arbre de vis sans fin qui fait réagir la composante axiale de la charge de dent de l'arbre de vis sans fin pour une première direction de couple de roue dentée mais pas pour une seconde direction opposée de couple de roue dentée et définit au moins un premier point de pivotement autour duquel le palier principal pivote qui est situé sur un axe de pivot, un second moyen de pivotement (28) pour le palier principal de l'arbre de vis sans fin, positionné de façon distale par rapport au premier moyen de pivotement, qui fait réagir la composante axiale de la charge de dent de l'arbre de vis sans fin pour la seconde direction de couple de roue dentée mais pas pour la première direction de couple de roue dentée et définit au moins un second point de pivotement autour duquel le palier principal pivote qui est situé sur un second axe de pivotement, le second point de pivotement étant espacé du premier point de pivotement.
