CLAIMS

1 . A land- or marine-based gas turbine arrangement for generating electrical power to supply a load (200), wherein said load (200) is external with respect to the arrangement, the arrangement comprising:

two spools (10, 12):

a second spool (12) including a second shaft (13), a second compressor (C2) for compressing inlet gas and a second turbine (T2) mounted on the second shaft (13), and

a first spool (10) including a first shaft (1 1 ), a first compressor (C1 ) for further compressing compressed gas from the second compressor (C2) and a first turbine (T1 ) mounted on the first shaft (1 1 );

the arrangement further comprising

a first combustor (Combl ) operable to combust or react a mixture of fuel so that further compressed gas from the first compressor (C1 ) turns into gas with elevated temperature that is expanded in the first turbine (T1 ) to produce mechanical power;

the second turbine (T2) arranged to receive expanded gas with elevated temperature from the first turbine (T1 ) and to further expand said expanded gas with elevated temperature to produce mechanical power, the second spool (12) being rotatable independently of the first spool (10);

the first compressor (C1 ) arranged to receive said compressed gas from the second compressor (C2) and to further compress said compressed gas, the first spool (10) being rotatable independently of the second spool (12); and

two electrical generators (G1 , G2):

a first generator (G1 ) directly coupled to the first shaft (1 1 ) to be ro- tatably driven thereby, the first generator (G1 ) rotating at the same speed as the first shaft (1 1 ) and operable to generate an alternating electrical current arranged to be supplied to said load (200), and

a second generator (G2) directly coupled to the second shaft (13) to be rotatably driven thereby, the second generator (G2) rotating at the same speed as the second shaft (13) and operable to generate an alternating electrical current arranged to be supplied to said load (200);

wherein

the first generator (G1 ) and the second generator (G2) have nominally substantially equal power ratings and the rotating parts of the first generator (G1 ) and the second generator (G2) have nominally substantially equal rotational speed ratings, and at least 60 percent of a total output power supplied to said load (200) in a form of electrical and rotational power is generated by the two electrical generators (G1 , G2), wherein the total output power is a sum of electrical and rotational power supplied to said load (200) by the arrange- ment.

2. An arrangement according to claim 1 in combination with a stationary land- based gas turbine plant or a marine-based gas turbine plant.

An arrangement according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said load (200) external with respect to the arrangement and into which said load the electrical power is to be supplied is an electrical grid or a stand-alone electrical load such as an electrical supply system of a hospital or an industrial plant or a residential load or an electrical supply system of a ship and/or an electrical motor part of a marine propulsion system of a ship.

4. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

a first heat exchanger (14) arranged to receive said further compressed gas from the first compressor (C1 ) and further expanded gas with elevated temperature from the second turbine (T2), the first heat exchanger (14) causing heat transfer from said further expanded gas with elevated temperature to said further compressed gas so as to pre-heat said further compressed gas prior to combustion in the first combustor (Combl ).

5. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

a second heat exchanger (15) arranged to receive said compressed gas to be transferred to the first compressor (C1 ) and cooling medium from an external source so as to decrease a temperature of said compressed gas.

6. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

a second combustor (Comb2) operable to combust or react a mixture of fuel, the second combustor (Comb2) arranged to re-heat said expanded gas with elevated temperature and, after re-heating, to transfer said expanded gas with elevated temperature into the second turbine (T2).

7. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

the first compressor (C1 ) and the first turbine (T1 ) being mounted on the first shaft (1 1 ) and separated from each other only by a planar element (34) arranged between the first compressor (C1 ) and the first turbine (T1 ) wherein a plane defined by the planar element (34) is perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the first shaft (1 1 ).

8. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

the second compressor (C2) and the second turbine (T2) being mounted on the second shaft (13) and separated from each other only by a planar element (34) arranged between the second compressor (C2) and the second turbine (T2) wherein a plane defined the planar element (34) is perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the second shaft (13).

9. An arrangement according to claim 7 or 8, wherein the arrangement comprises:

a planar element (34) being a partially hollow planar element (35) ar- ranged so that air can flow inside the partially hollow planar element (35) providing cooling for the partially hollow planar element (35).

10. An arrangement according to any one of the claims 6-9, wherein the arrangement comprises:

the first combustor (Combl ) and/or the second combustor (Comb2) being externally fired combustors.

1 1 . An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

an auxiliary system comprising an energy source for operating the arrangement during an interruption in the electrical grid or in a case of a planned maintenance outage.

12. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement comprises:

the first combustor (Combl ) comprising an ignition system and a fuel injection system.

13. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

a control system (Ctrl) for controlling an operation of the arrangement.

14. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement comprises:

the first compressor (C1 ) and/or the second compressor (C2) being cen- trifugal compressors.

15. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement comprises:

the first turbine (T1 ) and/or the second turbine (T2) being radial turbines.

16. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement comprises:

at least one active magnetic bearing coupled to each one of the shafts (1 1 , 13).

17. An arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

a burner arranged in fluid communication with the arrangement wherein said further expanded gas with elevated temperature from the second turbine (T2) or said gas at elevated temperature from the first heat exchanger (14) is being injected into and utilized in the burner.

18. An arrangement according to any one of the claims 4-16, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

a heat utilization process (40) arranged in fluid communication with the gas turbine arrangement wherein the cooling medium from the second heat exchanger (15), if water, is injected to the heat utilization process and utilized for heating.

19. An arrangement according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the arrangement further comprises:

the first generator (G1 ) and the second generator (G2) have nominally substantially equal power ratings differing at most ten percent from each other relative to nominal power rating of the generator with a higher nominal power rating, and the rotating parts of the first generator (G1 ) and the second generator (G2) have nominally substantially equal rotational speed ratings differing at most ten percent from each other relative to nominal speed rating of the generator with a higher nominal speed rating.

20. An arrangement according to any of the preceding claims, wherein at least part of the alternating electrical current is arranged to be utilized in self-consumption of the arrangement.
