Architecture that comprises a mediation component which identifies engaged applications and, gathers and actively monitors information from the engaged applications (e.g., text displayed directly to the user, text embedded in photos, fingerprint of songs, etc.) to infer the working context of a user. The inferred context can then be handed over to one of the applications, such as a browser (in a form which does not cross the privacy barrier) to provide improved ranking for the suggested queries through the preferred search provider. Since the context is inferred into concepts, no PII (personally-identifiable information) is communicated without user consent--only very high-level contextual concepts are provided to the search engines.

L'invention porte sur une architecture comprenant un élément de médiation qui identifie des applications activées et collecte et surveille activement des informations provenant des applications activées (par exemple du texte affiché directement face à l'utilisateur, du texte inclus dans des photos, des signatures numériques de chansons, etc.) pour déduire le contexte de travail d'un utilisateur. Le contexte déduit peut ensuite être transféré à l'une des applications, telle qu'un navigateur (sous une forme qui ne transgresse pas la confidentialité) pour obtenir un meilleur classement des interrogations suggérées par l'intermédiaire du fournisseur de service de recherche préféré. Puisque le contexte est déduit sous forme de concepts, aucune information nominative (PII) n'est communiquée sans le consentement de l'utilisateur, et seuls des concepts contextuels de très haut niveau sont fournis aux moteurs de recherche.
