A mold assembly system includes a mold assembly that defines an infiltration chamber used for forming an infiltrated metal-matrix composite (MMC) tool. Reinforcement materials are deposited within the infiltration chamber, and a binder material is used to infiltrate the reinforcement materials. At least one preformed mesh is positioned within the infiltration chamber and embedded within the reinforcement materials. The at least one preformed mesh includes a porous body and provides skeletal reinforcement to the infiltrated MMC tool following infiltration.

L'invention concerne un système d'ensemble moule comprenant un ensemble moule qui définit une chambre d'infiltration servant à former un outil composite à matrice métallique (MMC) infiltré. Des matériaux de renforcement sont déposés à l'intérieur de la chambre d'infiltration, et un matériau liant est utilisé pour infiltrer les matériaux de renforcement. Au moins un treillis préformé est positionné à l'intérieur de la chambre d'infiltration et intégré dans les matériaux de renforcement. Ledit au moins un treillis préformé comprend un corps poreux et fournit un renforcement d'ossature pour l'outil MMC infiltré suite à l'infiltration.
