Methods and apparatus for supporting capturing, processing and/or use of images of surfaces of an environment visible from a default viewing position and images of surfaces not visible from the default viewing position, e.g., occluded surfaces, are described. In some embodiments occluded and non-occluded image content is transmitted to a playback devices in one or more different stream formats. A playback device uses occluded image data to support the display of images of surfaces not visible from a default viewing location in the environment, but which are visible from a location offset from the default viewing location, when a user moves from a default viewing position corresponding to the default location in the environment to another location. In accordance with one stream format occluded and non-occluded image content is communicated in the same frame. In accordance with another stream format occluded and non-occluded image content is communicated in different frames.

La présente invention concerne des procédés et un appareil permettant de prendre en charge la capture, le traitement et/ou l'utilisation d'images de surfaces d'un environnement visible depuis une position de visualisation par défaut et d'images de surfaces non visibles depuis une position de visualisation par défaut, par exemple, des surfaces occluses. Selon certains modes de réalisation, un contenu d'image occluse et non occluse est transmis à un dispositif de lecture dans un ou plusieurs formats de flux différents.
