There is disclosed a process for determining early patient response to an initial therapy administration, comprising a rapid determination of effectiveness of a therapy after an initial treatment for a cancer indication. There is further disclosed a process for determining early patient response to an initial cancer treatment, comprising (a) conducting a baseline PET FDG or PET FL T scan of the tumor region in a patient by determining tumor tissue metabolic rate and/or apoptotic rate (for FLT), (b) providing a single potentially effective dose of a therapeutic to the patient, (c) conducting a second PET FDG or PET FLT scan by determining tumor tissue metabolic rate, and (d) comparing the results of the first PET scan to the second PET scan to determine an imaging response in the PET scan results.

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer une réponse précoce d'un patient à une administration de thérapie initiale, comprenant une détermination rapide de l'efficacité d'une thérapie après un traitement initial pour une indication d'un cancer. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé permettant de déterminer une réponse précoce d'un patient à un traitement initial du cancer, consistant (a) à effectuer un balayage de tomographie par émission de positrons (TEP) à fluorodésoxyglucose (FDG) ou de TEP à fluorothymidine (FLT) de la région de la tumeur chez un patient en déterminant le taux métabolique et/ou le taux apoptotique dans un tissu tumoral (pour la FLT), (b) à fournir au patient une seule dose potentiellement efficace d'un agent thérapeutique, (c) à effectuer un second balayage de TEP à FDG ou de TEP à FLT en déterminant le taux métabolique dans un tissu tumoral, et (d) à comparer les résultats du premier balayage de TEP à ceux du second balayage de TEP pour déterminer une réponse d'imagerie dans les résultats du balayage de TEP.
