Adjustable drill string housings are described for use in the directional drilling of wellbores, e.g. wellbores for hydrocarbon recovery wells. The adjustable drill string housings permit adjustment of a bend angle in the housings without removing the housings from a wellbore. In some exemplary embodiments, the bend angle can be adjusted by changing the internal stresses in a support member carried by the housings. In other embodiments, the bend angle may be adjusted by causing failure of sacrificial support members carried by the housings, and the failure may be caused by delivering chemicals through a chemical delivery system to the sacrificial support members. Methods of operating the adjustable drill string housings include multi-lateral drilling operations wherein the bend angle is adjusted when a casing window has been detected.

Cette invention concerne des boîtiers réglables de train de tiges de forage, destinés à être utilisés dans le forage directionnel de trous de forage, par exemple des trous de forage pour des puits de récupération d'hydrocarbures. Lesdits boîtiers réglables de train de tiges de forage permettent l'ajustement d'un angle de courbure dans les boîtiers sans qu'il soit nécessaire de retirer les boîtiers d'un trou de forage. Selon certains modes de réalisation cités à titre d'exemple, l'angle de courbure peut être ajusté par modification des contraintes internes dans un élément de support supporté par les boîtiers. Selon d'autres modes de réalisation, l'angle de courbure peut être ajusté en provoquant la rupture d'éléments de support sacrificiels supportés par les boîtiers, et la rupture peut être provoquée par distribution de produits chimiques à travers un système de distribution de produits chimiques vers les éléments de support sacrificiels.
