The present invention pertains to a range-switching control device for determining through the use of an SBW-ECU42 whether or not a delayed state of range-switching (in which a shift range switch is completed more slowly than normal) is in effect during a shift range switch (e.g., during a switch from a P range to a NotP range), determining whether or not a state is in effect in which a target range should be changed to a safer side (e.g., the P range) when a delayed state of range-switching is determined to be in effect, and as a result, changing the target range to a safer side when a state in which the target range should be changed to a safer side (e.g., the driver is exiting the vehicle) is determined to be in effect. It is thereby possible in the present invention for the shift range to be switched to a safer side (the P range) even if the driver assesses that the shift range will not be switched and exits the vehicle before the shift range switch is complete.
