A fuel cell internal status detection system that has: an estimation target status quantity setting means that sets an appropriate estimation target status quantity as an internal status index; an impedance value acquisition means that acquires a fuel cell impedance value; an impedance usability determination means that determines whether the acquired impedance value can be used to calculate the estimation target status quantity; an estimation target status quantity calculation means that, when the impedance value usability determination means has determined that the impedance value can be used to calculate the estimation target status quantity, calculates, on the basis of the acquired impedance value, the estimation target status quantity set by the estimation target status quantity setting means; and a non-usability processing execution means that, when the impedance usability determination means has determined that the impedance value cannot be used to calculate the estimation target status quantity, performs non-usability processing.
