Methods for production of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) from coccolithophorid Pleurochrysis carterae are disclosed. This invention provides methods for producing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20: 5 n-3), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22: 6 n-3), stearidonic acid (SDA, 18: 4 n-3), α-linolenic acid (ALA, 18: 3 n-3), and oleic acid (18: 1) from Pleurochrysis carterae (Haptophyta, Prymnesiophyceae). The current invention comprises (a). culture conditions for inducing the synthesis of the PUFAs in the said organism; (b). a method to enhance the synthesis of oleic acid in the said organism. The PUFAs produced with the current invention can be used for food, dietary supplement, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.

L'invention concerne des procédés de production d'acides gras polyinsaturés (PUFA) à partir de coccolithophoridés Pleurochrysis carterae. La présente invention concerne des procédés de production d'acide eicosapentaénoïque (EPA, 20: 5 n-3), d'acide docosahexanoïque (DHA, 22: 6 n-3), d'acide stéaridonique (SDA, 18: 4 n-3), d'acide alpha-linolénique (ALA, 18: 3 n-3), et d'acide oléique (18 : 1) à partir de Pleurochrysis carterae (Haptophytes, Prymnésiophycées). La présente invention comprend: (a) des conditions de culture permettant d'induire la synthèse des PUFA dans l'organisme; (b) un procédé pour améliorer la synthèse de l'acide oléique dans ledit organisme. Les acides gras polyinsaturés (PUFA), produits dans la présente invention, peuvent être utilisés dans les aliments, les compléments alimentaires, les applications cosmétiques et pharmaceutiques.
