Provided is a variable magnification optical system comprising: a first lens group (G1) that is arranged closest to the object side and that has a positive refractive power; a negative lens group (G2) that is arranged further toward the image side than the first lens group and that has a negative refractive power; a positive lens group (G4) that is arranged further toward the image side than the negative lens group, that includes at least one lens arranged further toward the image side than a stop (S), and that has a positive refractive power; and a focusing group (G3) that is arranged between the negative lens group and the positive lens group. When varying magnification, the first lens group moves with respect to an object surface, the interval between the first lens group and the negative lens group changes, and the interval between the negative lens group and the positive lens group changes. When focusing, the interval between the focusing group and a lens arranged in a position facing the object side of the focusing group changes, the interval between the focusing group and a lens arranged in a position facing the image side of the focusing group changes, and a predetermined conditional expression is satisfied.

La présente invention a trait à un système optique à grossissement variable comprenant : un premier groupe de lentilles (G1) qui est disposé au plus près du côté objet et qui a une réfringence positive; un groupe de lentilles négatives (G2) qui se situe davantage dans la direction du côté image que le premier groupe de lentilles, et qui a une réfringence négative; un groupe de lentilles positives (G4) qui se situe davantage dans la direction du côté image que le groupe de lentilles négatives, qui inclut au moins une lentille disposée davantage dans la direction du côté image qu'un diaphragme (S), et qui a une réfringence positive; ainsi qu'un groupe de mise au point (G3) qui se trouve entre le groupe de lentilles négatives et le groupe de lentilles positives. Lors de la variation du grossissement, le premier groupe de lentilles se déplace par rapport à une surface d'objet, l'intervalle entre ledit premier groupe de lentilles et le groupe de lentilles négatives change, et l'intervalle entre ce groupe de lentilles négatives et le groupe de lentilles positives change. Lors de la mise au point, l'intervalle entre le groupe de mise au point et une lentille occupant une position en regard du côté objet du groupe de mise au point change, l'intervalle entre le groupe de mise au point et une lentille occupant une position en regard du côté image du groupe de mise au point change, et une expression conditionnelle prédéfinie est respectée.
