Abstract:
(EN) Liquid crystal tunable plasmonic colour generation device (100) comprising a first substrate (102) provided with a transparent conductive layer (104) and an alignment layer (106), a second substrate (111) arranged to face the first substrate (102) and provided with an imprinted, nanostructured, plasmonic surface layer (110) preferably made of aluminium and arranged to face the alignment layer (106), and a high-birefringence liquid crystal layer (108) placed between the substrates (102,111) and having a birefringence at least equal to 0.3, wherein the alignment layer (106) is arranged to align the liquid crystal layer (108) homogeneously in the absence of an applied voltage. A portion of white light (101) comprising photons in the surface plasmon resonance frequency range is absorbed, when impinging on the device (100), while the remainder (115-1,115-2) is reflected and shows a colour; if a voltage is applied by a voltage source (122) to change the birefringence of the liquid crystal layer (108), reflected light (115-1,115-2) will show a colour change. The device (100) has a response speed of less than 90 milliseconds and a tunability range of over 100 nanometres.
(FR) L'invention concerne un dispositif de génération couleur plasmonique accordable à cristaux liquides (100) comprenant un premier substrat (102) pourvu d'une couche conductrice transparente (104) et d'une couche d'alignement (106), un second substrat (111) agencé de manière à faire face au premier substrat (102) et pourvu d'une couche de surface imprimée, nanostructurée, plasmonique (110), de préférence, en aluminium et agencée pour faire face à la couche d'alignement (106), et une couche de cristaux liquides à biréfringence élevée (108) placée entre les substrats (102, 111) et ayant une biréfringence au moins égale à 0,3, la couche d'alignement (106) étant agencée de manière à aligner la couche de cristaux liquides (108) de façon homogène en l'absence d'une tension appliquée. Une partie de lumière blanche (101) comprenant des photons dans la plage de fréquences de résonance plasmonique de surface est absorbée, lorsque cette dernière est incidente sur le dispositif (100), tandis que le reste (115-1 115-2) est réfléchi et montre une couleur ; si une tension est appliquée par une source de tension (122) pour changer la biréfringence de la couche de cristaux liquides (108), la lumière réfléchie (115-1 115-2) va montrer un changement de couleur. Le dispositif (100) a une vitesse de réponse inférieure à 90 millisecondes et une plage d'accordabilité de plus de 100 nanomètres.
