Abstract:
(EN) The present invention is based on a two-dimensional photonic crystal in which are inserted four waveguides and a resonant cavity. Owing to the existence of the photonic band gap, an electromagnetic signal propagating through the device is confined within the guides and the cavity and, through the adjustment of the orientation of a dipole mode generated within the cavity, is able to function in three distinct regimes. In regime 1, subjected to an external DC magnetic field +H0, it functions as a two-way divider, with isolation of the input relative to the two outputs, and, upon reversal of the field signal, it functions as an optical key. In regime 2, with the use of a DC magnetic field -H0, it functions as a waveguide bender, with the input isolated from the output, and, upon reversal of the field signal, functions as an optical key. In regime 3, subject to the application of an external DC magnetic field +H1, the device functions as a three-way divider.
(FR) La présente invention est basée sur un cristal photonique bidimensionnel dans lequel sont insérés quatre guides d'ondes et une cavité résonante. Du fait de la bande interdite photonique, un signal électromagnétique qui se propage à travers le dispositif reste confiné à l'intérieur des guides et de la cavité et, grâce à l'ajustement de l'orientation d'un mode dipôle généré à l'intérieur de la cavité, un fonctionnement dans trois modes distincts est possible. En mode 1, soumis à un champ magnétique externe DC +H0, il fonctionne comme un diviseur en deux canaux, avec isolation de l'entrée par rapport aux deux sorties, et lors de l'inversion du signal du champ, il fonctionne comme une clé optique. En mode 2, avec l'application d'un champ magnétique DC -H0, il fonctionne comme coude de guide d'ondes, l'entrée étant isolée de la sortie, et lors de l'inversion du signal du champ, il fonctionne comme une clé optique. En mode 3, soumis à l'application d'un champ magnétique externe DC +H1, le dispositif fonctionne comme diviseur en trois canaux.
(PT) A presente invenção baseia-se em um cristal fotônico bidimensional em que são inseridos quatro guias de onda e uma cavidade ressonante. Devido à existência do photonic band gap, um sinal eletromagnético que se propaga através do dispositivo fica confinado no interior dos guias e da cavidade e, através do ajuste da orientação de um modo dipolo gerado no interior da cavidade, pode funcionar em três regimes distintos. No regime 1, submetido a um campo magnético externo DC +H0, funciona como divisor por dois canais, com isolamento da entrada em relação às duas saídas, e, ao se inverter o sinal do campo, funciona como chave óptica. No regime 2, com a aplicação de um campo magnético DC -H0, funciona como dobra de guia de ondas, com a entrada isolada da saída, e, ao se inverter o sinal do campo, funciona como chave óptica. N0 regime 3, sujeito à aplicação de um campo magnético externo DC +H1, o dispositivo funciona como divisor por três canais.
