(EN)The present invention provides a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery comprising: a lithium compound that comprises a core including a first lithium cobalt oxide and a surface modifying layer located on the surface of the core, wherein the surface modifying layer is discontinuously distributed on the surface of the core; and a second lithium cobalt oxide that is distributed adjacent to or in contact with the lithium compound and that has a mole ratio less than 1 Li/Co, wherein the lithium compound includes any two or more lithium reactive elements selected from the group consisting of Ti, W, Zr, Mn, Mg, P, Ni, Al, Sn, V, Cr, and Mo. The positive electrode active material according to the present invention forms a lithium-combined structure in a positive electrode active material of the lithium cobalt oxide, and converts the two-dimensional moving path of lithium in the positive electrode active material to a three-dimensional moving path. Thus, the moving speed of lithium ions is increased when applied to a battery and an improved capacity and rate can be exhibited without lowering the initial capacity. As a result, it is useful as a positive electrode active material for a high-voltage battery of 4.4V or more.
