One embodiment of the present invention relates to a backlight unit which comprises a light source and a wavelength conversion member that is positioned on the optical path of the light discharged from the light source, and wherein: the wavelength conversion member comprises a wavelength conversion layer that contains quantum dots in a matrix, said quantum dots producing fluorescence when excited by excitation light; the wavelength conversion layer is a photocured layer that is obtained by curing a photocurable composition by means of light irradiation; the photocurable composition contains the quantum dots, a polymerizable compound that contains at least an alicyclic epoxy compound, and a photopolymerization initiator; and the loss rate of the light discharged from the light source in the matrix of the wavelength conversion layer is 3% or less in terms of a thickness of 60 μm. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device, a wavelength conversion member or a photocurable composition.
