A novel near-IR emitting cationic silver chalcogenide quantum dot with a mixed coating wherein the coating comprises of at least 2 different types of materials and is capable of luminescence at the desired near IR bandwidth at wavelengths of 800 - 850 nm. The quantum dot is fabricated via an advantageous single-step, homogeneous, aqueous method at a low temperature resulting a near IR emitting semiconductor quantum dot with high Quantum Yield, high transfection with low toxicity. The quantum dots may be used in medical imaging, tumor detection, drug delivery and labeling as well as in quantum dot sensitized solar cells.

Cette invention concerne une nouvelle boîte quantique cationique à base de chalcogénure d'argent émettant dans le proche infrarouge pourvue d'un revêtement mixte, ledit revêtement comprenant au moins 2 types de matériaux différents et étant capable de luminescence dans la bande passante recherchée dans le proche IR à des longueurs d'onde de 800 à 850 nm. La boîte quantique est fabriquée par un procédé par voie humide, homogène, à une seule étape et à basse température qui est avantageux et permet d'obtenir une boîte quantique semi-conductrice émettant par le proche infrarouge à un rendement quantique élevé, et une transfection élevée à basse toxicité. Les boîtes quantiques peuvent être utilisées en imagerie médicale, pour la détection de tumeurs, l'administration et le marquage de médicaments ainsi que dans des cellules solaires sensibilisées par boîtes quantiques.
