Abstract

The polymer compositions described herein include the reaction product obtained from a mixture that includes: (i) a hydroxyl terminated intermediate containing at least one furan functional group; and (ii) a polyisocyanate component. The polymer compositions may further include a polymaleimide compound which may be (a) added as a component of the polymer composition, (b) incorporated into the structure of the hydroxyl terminated intermediate containing at least one furan functional group, or (c) both. The resulting polymer composition is capable of thermally reversible crosslinking. Also described are processes for making such polymer compositions, methods of reversibly increasing and/or decreasing the amount of crosslinking in a polymer composition thermally, through utilization of the Diels-Alder cycloaddition mechanism between furan functional groups and the polymaleimide compound, and methods of using the described furan functional group containing materials to prepare polymer compositions capable of thermally reversible crosslinking.

L’invention concerne des compositions polymères contenant le produit de réaction obtenu à partir d'un mélange qui comprend : (i) un intermédiaire à terminaison hydroxyle contenant au moins un groupe fonctionnel furane ; et (ii) un constituant polyisocyanate. Les compositions polymères peuvent en outre comprendre un composé polymaléimide qui peut être (a) ajouté en tant que constituant de la composition de polymère, (b) incorporé dans la structure de l'intermédiaire à terminaison hydroxyle contenant au moins un groupe fonctionnel furane, ou (c) les deux. La composition polymère obtenue permet une réticulation thermiquement réversible. L'invention concerne également des procédés de fabrication de telles compositions polymères, des procédés d'augmentation et/ou de diminution de manière réversible du degré de réticulation dans une composition polymère par voie thermique, grâce à l'utilisation du mécanisme de cyclo-addition de Diels-Alder entre des groupes fonctionnels furane et le composé polymaléimide, et des procédés d'utilisation des matériaux contenant des groupes fonctionnels furane décrits pour préparer des compositions polymères permettant une réticulation thermiquement réversible.
