The variable power optical system according to the present invention has: a first lens group (G1) that is arranged closest to the object side; a first focusing lens group (Ga) that is arranged closer to the image side than the first lens group; a second focusing lens group (Gb) that is arranged closer to the image side than the first focusing lens group; and a rear lens group (Gr) that is arranged closer to the image side than the second focusing lens group. When the power is varied, the first lens group moves, and the spacing between the first lens group and the first focusing lens group, the spacing between the first focusing lens group and the second focusing lens group, and the spacing between the second focusing lens group and the rear lens group change, and when focusing, the first focusing lens group and the second focusing lens group move on the optical axis on differing movement trajectories, and satisfy a predetermined conditional formula.

Le système optique à puissance variable selon la présente invention comporte : un premier groupe de lentilles (G1) qui est disposé au plus près du côté objet ; un premier groupe de lentilles de mise au point (Ga) qui est placé plus près du côté image que le premier groupe de lentilles ; un second groupe de lentilles de mise au point (Gb) qui se trouve plus près du côté image que le premier groupe de lentilles de mise au point ; et un groupe arrière de lentilles (Gr) qui se situe plus près du côté image que le second groupe de lentilles de mise au point.
