The present invention relates to a Cucumber plant (Cucumis sativus) which provides fruits having an improved shelf life, wherein said plant comprises a stay green gene providing the improved fruit shelf life, wherein said stay green gene encodes a protein comprising the amino acid sequence as shown in SEQ ID No. 2, or amino acid sequences with more than 90% identity, preferably more than 94% identity, more preferably more than 96% identity, even more preferably more than 98% identity; and wherein the expression of said stay green gene is reduced as compared to the expression of said stay green gene in a cucumber plant not providing fruits having an improved shelf life or the enzymatic activity of said protein is reduced as compared to the enzymatic activity of said protein in a cucumber plant not providing fruits having an improved shelf life.

La présente invention concerne un plant de concombre (Cucumis sativus) qui produit des fruits ayant une durée de conservation améliorée, ledit plant comprenant un gène stay green procurant la durée de conservation améliorée des fruits. Le gène stay green code pour une protéine comprenant la séquence d'acides aminés telle que présentée dans SEQ ID No 2, ou des séquences d'acides aminés ayant plus de 90 % d'identité, de préférence plus de 94 % d'identité, de préférence encore plus de 96 % d'identité, plus préférentiellement encore plus de 98 % d'identité; et l'expression dudit gène stay green étant réduite par rapport à l'expression dudit gène stay green dans un plant de concombre ne produisant pas de fruits ayant une durée de conservation améliorée ou l'activité enzymatique de ladite protéine étant réduite par rapport à l'activité enzymatique de ladite protéine dans un plant de concombre ne produisant pas de fruits ayant une durée de conservation améliorée.
