A method for generating a polycube segmentation of an input object comprises: providing an input mesh of the object comprising a plurality of surface faces; generating an initial polycube labeling for the faces by assigning, to each face, a label which is one of six directions (±X,±Y,±Z) aligned with a set of Cartesian axes, the initial polycube labeling defining a plurality of charts, and generating the initial polycube labeling comprising effecting a tradeoff between competing objectives of: making the initial polycube labeling relatively compact; and making the initial polycube labeling relatively faithful to the input object. The method further comprises generating an updated polycube segmentation by changing the label assigned to each of one or more surface faces and thereby modifying one or more of the charts to provide the charts with monotonic boundaries.

L'invention concerne un procédé qui permet de générer une segmentation polycube d'un objet d'entrée et qui consiste : à utiliser un maillage d'entrée de l'objet comportant une pluralité de faces; à générer un étiquetage polycube initial pour les faces par attribution, à chaque face, d'une étiquette qui est l'une des six directions (±X,±Y,±Z) alignées sur un ensemble d'axes cartésiens, l'étiquetage polycube initial définissant une pluralité de diagrammes, et à générer l'étiquetage polycube initial comportant l'exécution d'un compromis entre des objectifs concurrents qui sont : rendre l'étiquetage polycube initial relativement compact ; rendre l'étiquetage polycube initial relativement fidèle à l'objet d'entrée. Le procédé consiste en outre à générer une segmentation polycube mise à jour par changement de l'étiquette attribuée à chaque face parmi une ou plusieurs faces, modifiant ainsi un ou plusieurs des diagrammes pour conférer à ceux-ci des bornes monotones.
