Title: METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR FABRICATING A PRODUCT BY MEANS OF A DIGITAL FABRICATION UNIT
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and to a system for fabricating a product by means of a digital fabrication unit, wherein via a communications network (1), a service for fabricating the product is started by a communication device (2) connected to the network. By means of a digital fabrication unit, the product is fabricated in accordance with data describing the fabrication of the product, which is provided to the fabrication unit, wherein in a database (5) within the communications network, at least one data catalog (6) listing a plurality of products available for fabrication is stored. To each product, at least one set of data containing the data describing the fabrication of the product is assigned, and subject to an information assigned to the communication device (2), in particular subject to a network identifier or device identifier of the communication device (2), or locality, at least one product from a subset of all the products available for fabrication is displayed on a display unit of the communication device (2). The subset is formed subject to the information assigned to the communication device (2), and the at least one product selected from the subset is displayed by the product visualization descriptive data, which are transmitted by a server (3), in particular a fabrication server (3), to the communication device (2) via the communications network (1), and which have a smaller amount of data than the data stored for the product fabrication and which have a smaller amount of data than the data stored for the product fabrication. Data are sent to the server (3), in particular fabrication server (3), by the communication device (2), which data describe the preparation of a modification of the at least one selected product. The data stored in the database (5) describing the fabrication of the at least one product, and the data describing the preparation of the modification are combined to total data, which describe the fabrication of the modified product, and based on the combined total data, the modified product is fabricated by means of a fabrication unit.
