Abstract
(EN) The subject invention concerns materials and methods for increasing and/or improving photosynthetic efficiency in plants, and in particular, C3 plants. In particular, the subject invention provides for means to increase the number of bundle sheath (BS) cells in plants, to improve the efficiency of photosynthesis in BS cells, and to increase channels between BS and mesophyll (M) cells. In one embodiment, a method of the invention concerns altering the expression level or pattern of one or more of SHR, SCR, and/or SCL23 in a plant. The subject invention also pertains to genetically modified plants, and in particular, C3 plants, that exhibit increased expression of one or more of SHR, SCR, and/or SCL23. Transformed and transgenic plants are contemplated within the scope of the invention. The subject invention also concerns methods for increasing expression of photosynthetically important genes in a plant, wherein one or more genes of interest are operably linked with a plant SHR, SCR or SCL23 promoter sequence and expressed in a plant.
(FR) La présente invention concerne des matériaux et des procédés destinés à renforcer et/ou améliorer l'efficacité de la photosynthèse chez les plantes et, en particulier, chez les plantes en C3. La présente invention concerne, notamment, des moyens d'augmenter le nombre de cellules de la gaine périvasculaire chez les plantes, afin d'améliorer l'efficacité de la photosynthèse dans les cellules de la gaine périvasculaire, et d'améliorer la communication entre les cellules de la gaine périvasculaire et les cellules du mésophylle. La présente invention concerne, selon un mode de réalisation, un procédé de modification du niveau ou du profil d'expression des gènes SHR et/ou SCR et/ou SCL23 chez une plante. La présente invention concerne également des plantes génétiquement modifiées et, en particulier, des plantes en C3, caractérisées par une expression accrue des gènes SHR et/ou SCR et/ou SCL23. L'invention concerne, en outre, des plantes transformées et transgéniques. La présente invention concerne, par ailleurs, des procédés destinés à renforcer l'expression de gènes importants du point de vue de la photosynthèse chez une plante, procédés dans le cadre desquels un ou plusieurs gènes d'intérêt sont fonctionnellement liés à une séquence du promoteur des gènes végétaux SHR, SCR ou SCL23 et exprimés dans une plante.
