Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for implementing athermal optical devices based on composite structures having different components with different thermal properties such as a composite structure having materials of positive and negative thermo-optic effects or a composite structure having materials exhibiting different thermal expansion coefficients. In one aspect, a method for providing thermally stabilized optical device structure against temperature fluctuations includes forming an optical device structure to include a first optical material and a second optical material different from the first optical material, in which one of the first and second optical material exhibits a positive thermal- optic effect and the other one exhibits a negative thermal-optic effect, and structuring the first and second optical materials in the optical device structure to reduce a change in an effective refractive index of the optical device structure collectively produced by the first and second optical materials in response to a temperature variation.

L'invention concerne des procédés, des systèmes et des dispositifs permettant de mettre en œuvre des dispositifs optiques athermiques à base de structures composites possédant différents éléments constitutifs ayant différentes propriétés thermiques, notamment une structure composite possédant des matériaux à effets thermo-optiques positifs et négatifs ou une structure composite possédant des matériaux montrant différents coefficients de dilatation thermique. Dans un aspect, l'invention concerne un procédé fournissant une structure de dispositif optique à stabilisation thermique contre des variations de température. Ledit procédé comprend les étapes consistant à former une structure de dispositif optique pour inclure un premier matériau optique et un second matériau optique différent du premier matériau optique, l'un parmi le premier matériau optique et le second matériau optique montrant un effet optique thermique positif et l'autre montrant un effet optique thermique négatif, et à structurer les premier et second matériaux optiques dans la structure de dispositif optique pour réduire une variation d'un indice de réfraction efficace de la structure de dispositif optique formée collectivement par les premier et second matériaux optiques en réponse à une variation de température.
