There is described a technique for determining a temperature at a region below the surface of the Earth. In an embodiment, a time of travel of a seismic wave following the emission from a source into the earth is provided, and the travel time is used to estimate the temperature. In one example, a model based on the travel time and a further component, which may for example be based on heat flow and a constant of proportionality between seismic velocity and thermal conductivity, may be used to estimate the temperature.

La présente invention concerne une technique de détermination d'une température au niveau d'une région située sous la surface de la terre. Selon un mode de réalisation, un temps de propagation dans la terre d'une onde sismique à la suite de l'émission à partir d'une source est fourni, et le temps de propagation est utilisé pour estimer la température. Dans un exemple, un modèle basé sur le temps de propagation et un autre élément, qui peut par exemple être basé sur un flux de chaleur et sur une constante de proportionnalité entre une vitesse sismique et une conductivité thermique, peut être utilisé pour estimer la température.
