A computing device including a file system in memory is provided. The file system has a plurality of items. Where an item is a file, it has a unique content. Where an item is a folder, it is represented by a plurality of container structures. Each container structure references items in the file system through the use of references such as pointers. Each item can be contained by more than one folder by being referenced by more than one folder. Each item can also include a contained-by structure including references to folders containing that item. Moreover, each item can include relationship structures allowing the items to be organized in accordance with relationships other than contained-by relationships, such as content derivation relationships. The file system can be manipulated through the use of various operations such as "Archive" and "Restore" operations.

La présente invention concerne un dispositif informatique comprenant un système de fichiers en mémoire. Le système de fichiers comporte plusieurs éléments. Lorsqu'un élément est un fichier, il possède un contenu unique. Lorsqu'un élément est un dossier, il est représenté par plusieurs structures de conteneurs. Chaque structure de conteneur référence des éléments dans le système de fichiers par l'utilisation de références en tant que pointeurs. Chaque élément peut être contenu par plus d'un dossier en étant référencé par plus d'un dossier. Chaque élément contient également une structure dite contenue par comprenant des références à des dossiers contenant cet élément. De plus, chaque élément peut contenir des structures de relations permettant une organisation des éléments conformément à des relations autres que des relations dites contenues par, telles que des relations de dérivation de contenu. Le système de fichiers peut être manipulé par l'utilisation de diverses opérations telles que des opérations « Archiver » et « Restaurer ».
