Embodiments of the present invention split game processing and rendering between a client and a game server. A rendered video game image is received from a game server and combined with a rendered image generated by the game client to form a single video game image that is presented to a user. Control input is received by a client device and then communicated to a game server, potentially with some preprocessing, and is also consumed locally on the client, at least in part. An embodiment of the present invention processes and renders some or all of a character's interactions with game objects on the client device associated with the character. A character is associated with a client device when control input associated with the character is received from a user of the client device.

Selon des modes de réalisation, la présente invention permet de partager le traitement et le rendu de jeu entre un client et un serveur de jeu. Une image de jeu vidéo rendue est reçue en provenance d'un serveur de jeu et combinée avec une image rendue générée par le client de jeu pour former une seule image de jeu vidéo qui est présentée à un utilisateur. Une entrée de commande est reçue par un dispositif client puis transmise à un serveur de jeu, avec un possible prétraitement, et elle est aussi utilisée localement sur le client, au moins en partie. Selon un mode de réalisation, la présente invention permet de traiter certaines interactions ou toutes les interactions d'un personnage avec des objets de jeu sur le dispositif client associé au personnage, et d'en assurer le rendu. Un personnage est associé à un dispositif client lorsqu'une entrée de commande associée au personnage est reçue en provenance d'un utilisateur du dispositif client.
