Abstract

An encoder for digital audio signals at a higher sample rate creates a stream for consumer distribution at a lower sampling rate, with compatibility for standard PCM players without a decoder. In conjunction with a suitable decoder, two enhanced playback options are supported, the first option allowing full lossless reconstruction of a noise-shaped higher sampling rate signal, the second option allowing lossy bandwidth extension even if an intervening transmission chain has truncated the least-significant-bits of the encoder's output signal.

Un codeur de signaux audio numériques à une fréquence d'échantillonnage élevée, crée un flux de données destiné à être distribué à un consommateur à une fréquence d'échantillonnage faible, avec une compatibilité avec des lecteurs PCM standard sans décodeur. En association avec un décodeur approprié, deux options de lecture améliorées sont supportées : la première option permettant une reconstruction totale sans perte d'un signal à fréquence d'échantillonnage élevée à bruit mis en forme; la seconde option permettant une extension de la largeur de bande avec perte même si une chaîne de transmission intervenante a tronqué les bits de poids faibles du signal de sortie du codeur.
