Abstract

The invention is based on the discovery of genes which influence lignin biosynthesis. In particular, the inventors have observed that if the expression, function and/or activity of these gene(s) (or any protein products thereof) is/are modulated, the lignin content of plants can be altered. As such, this invention provides plants which exhibit modulated expression of one or more lipase/esterase/thioesterase family gene(s) and which may find application in methods for producing biofuels.

L'invention repose sur la découverte de gènes qui influencent la biosynthèse de lignine. En particulier, les inventeurs ont observé que si l'expression, la fonction et/ou l'activité de ce ou ces gènes (ou de tout autre produit protéique associé) est/sont modulée(s), la teneur en lignine des plantes peut être modifiée. Ainsi, cette invention concerne des plantes qui présentent une expression modulée d'un ou plusieurs gènes de la famille lipase/estérase/thioestérase et qui peuvent trouver une application dans des procédés de production de biocarburants.
