Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to readily realize gradation control with good precision in target pixels. An electrophoretic display device characterized in that a first voltage pulse is applied to target pixels for a number of cycles determined by the objective gradation of the pixels to bring about a transition to a first display state. When the objective gradation is in the direction opposite from the direction of gradation change produced by the first voltage pulse as viewed from the first display state, a second voltage pulse, which is of opposite polarity from the first voltage pulse and which has a gradation change amount per single scan that is less than that of the first voltage pulse, is applied for a number of cycles that is commensurate to the gradation distance to the objective gradation. When the objective gradation is in the same direction as the direction of gradation change produced by the first voltage pulse as viewed from the first display state, a third voltage pulse, which is the same polarity as the first voltage pulse and which has a gradation change amount per single scan that is less than that of the first voltage pulse, is applied for a number of cycles that is commensurate to the gradation distance to the objective gradation.
