(EN) This friction brake device (10) is provided with: pressing members (14, 16) which can rotate around a rotation axis (18) and which press frictional engagement members (14A, 16A) against a pair of opposite friction surfaces (20S, 22S), respectively; a force-transmitting mechanism (46) which transmits rotational torque between the pressing members, which utilizes wedge action to convert the rotational torque to a force separating the pressing members along the rotational axis, and which transmits the reaction force of the pressing force between the pressing members; a pressing force control mechanism (34) which controls the force with which at least one of the pressing members presses the frictional engagement member against the friction surface; and a rotational torque support member (28) which receives the rotational torque transmitted from the one pressing member to the other pressing member through said other pressing member.
