(EN) The present patent application relates to a method for electro-optical keying using electro-optical keys based on semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) and devices for carrying out keying. In order to trigger the key, the method uses an electrical signal composed of various pulses (multiple pulses) that are added to the current step. This step is that which is normally used to actuate ordinary electro-optical keys, the multiple pulses introduced in the present patent being essential to improve the performance of the keys, by making them more rapid and affording less optical-signal distortion. In this way, the amplified electro-optical key incorporates ultra-rapid electronic circuits for generating a step-type current signal added to the multiple pulses, which, after injection into the SOA, render the latter capable of keying with rapidity and, at the same time, amplifying light packets modulated with dozens of gigabits per second. The present patent relates to uses in optical networks with direct keying of information packets and also uses in data centres. Furthermore, the present invention relates to the use of three devices for keying and amplifying modulated optical carrier waves.
(FR) La présente demande de brevet d'invention concerne un procédé de commutation électro-optique faisant intervenir des commutateurs électro-optiques basés sur des amplificateurs optiques à semi-conducteur (SOA), et des dispositifs pour réaliser cette commutation. Pour le déclenchement du commutateur, le procédé fait intervenir un signal électrique constitué de plusieurs impulsions (multi-impulsions) qui sont additionnées à l'échelon de courant. Cet échelon est celui normalement utilisé pour actionner les commutateurs électro-optiques classiques, les multi-impulsions introduites dans ce brevet étant essentielles pour améliorer la performance des commutateurs, les rendant plus rapides et réduisant la distorsion du signal optique. Ainsi, le commutateur électro-optique amplifié comprend des circuits électroniques ultrarapides pour générer un signal de courant de type échelon additionné aux multi-impulsions, lesquelles, après injection dans le SOA, le rendent capable d'effectuer une commutation rapide et, dans le même temps, d'amplifier les paquets de lumière modulés avec des dizaines de gigabits par seconde. Le présent brevet trouve une application dans les réseaux optiques avec commutation directe de paquets d'information, ainsi que dans les "Data Centers" (centres informatiques). Par ailleurs, la présente invention concerne l'utilisation de trois dispositifs de commutation et d'amplification d'ondes optiques porteuses modulées.
(PT) O presente pedido de patente de invenção refere-se a um método de chaveamento eletro-óptico empregando chaves eletro-ópticas baseadas em amplificadores ópticos a semicondutor (SOA) e dispositivos para realizar o chaveamento. Para o disparo da chave, o método emprega sinal elétrico composto por vários impulsos (multi-impulsos) que são somados ao degrau de corrente. Este degrau é aquele normalmente utilizado para acionar as chaves eletro-ópticas comuns, sendo que os multi-impulsos introduzidos nesta patente são essenciais para melhorar o desempenho das chaves tornando-as mais rápidas e com menor distorção do sinal óptico. Desta forma, a chave eletro- óptica amplificada incorpora circuitos eletrônicos ultrarrápidos para gerar um sinal de corrente tipo degrau somado aos multi-impulsos, os quais, após injetados no SOA, o tornam capaz de chavear com rapidez e, ao mesmo tempo, amplificar pacotes de luz modulados com dezenas de gigabits por segundo. Esta patente visa aplicações em redes ópticas com chaveamento direto de pacotes de informação, assim como aplicações em "Data Centers" (centrais de dados). Ainda, a presente invenção refere-se ao uso de três dispositivos para chaveamento e amplificação de ondas ópticas portadoras moduladas.
